Me(me) is not impressed
As a meme lover myself, I was extremely excited for this project. I knew that I wanted to do something that involved politics because it is the most relevant thing right now. However, it wasn't until the Harris/Pence debate that I knew what I was going to do my meme on. Once I saw that fly on top of Pence's head, I immediately started thinking up ways to make that even funnier than it already was.
For this assignment, I found a picture of Pence with the fly on his head and put in a picture of Biden so that it looks like he is flying a drone onto Pence’s head. I did this by using the polygonal selection tool and making a mask around Biden from a picture of him. Then I found another two pictures of someone holding a remote control and a drone and did the same thing to both of them. Then I made these image layers into smart objects and used the sizing tool and selection tool to make the images look more natural and moved the pictures into their proper places so it looked like Biden was holding a remote and there was a drone on Pence’s head. Then I used a Gaussian blur filter to the image of Biden and the controller so they looked like they were at a distance from Pence. Then I used a saturation hue adjustment layer to make the color of the hands match the color of Biden’s skin. Then I put in a text box and wrote out “ONLY TOOK ONE LESSON” with some extra spaces between “one” and “lesson”. I changed the font and color of the text to complete the look of a perfect meme.
As I said before, I am a very big meme fan. So being able to make one that I could both appreciate and be proud of was so incredible to me. I made sure to watch all of the videos and readings and also work along in class because without that I don’t think I could’ve created a meme that used so many different tools and techniques.
At the end of the day, I had a great time while learning about the many different tools in photoshop that allow me to make to take objects and insert them into other images. I am so glad I got to do this because I feel much more confident in my photoshop abilities and am excited for future photoshop projects!
